A unique retinal surgery operating theatre inaugurated at the Eye Clinic
In the new operating theatre at the Eye Clinic of the University of Debrecen’s Clinical Centre, state-of-the-art high-tech equipment is now used to perform retinal surgery in a safer way and in shorter time. The new operating theatre was inaugurated on Thursday.

“You are awarded a doctorate”
The University of Debrecen has held its autumn PhD graduation ceremony traditionally in the framework of the Celebration of Hungarian Science. At the ceremony, 111 candidates received their diplomas, and Habilitated Doctorate and Professor Emeritus titles as well as university awards were also conferred.

A promising alternative to lithium-based batteries
Researchers at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen have developed a prototype of an environment-friendly, high-performance, rechargeable zinc-air battery. This new type of energy store is based on cellulose and uses biodegradable materials as additives and membranes. Its development is in the scale-up phase.

European pilot project launched at the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen
The Clinical Centre of the University of Debrecen has won the title of European Model Project for a program aimed at improving the quality of patient care in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and gynecological diseases. The project representatives were also invited to a conference organized by Széchenyi Program Office, where the best trans-border Central European projects could be presented.

Chinese delegation at UD
Chongqing Medical University has initiated clinical and research cooperation and the launch of clinical exchange programs with the University of Debrecen. The delegation of this Chinese institution, consisting exclusively of professors of health sciences including obstetrics-gynecologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons and infectologists, as well as their Director of Strategic Development, also met with the representatives of the Clinical Centre.

Japanese scientist receives award for molecular medicine
The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Debrecen gave the 2023 Debrecen Award for Molecular Medicine to Shimon Sakaguchi, a professor at Osaka University. The professor and his colleagues study the molecular and cellular mechanisms of immunological tolerance and immune regulation. His discoveries could contribute to more effective treatments of autoimmune diseases and cancer. The Ambassador of France to Hungary arrived at the University of Debrecen to further strengthen the cooperation between the University of Debrecen and French institutions. Debrecen medical student represents the university in Florida
Regő Baráth Benjámin reported on the results of his research on human placental macrophages at the 12th Annual JHAC Research Symposium at the Johns Hopkins University All Children's Hospital in the United States. The sixth-year medical student was the youngest speaker at the congress.

UD's Disaster Medicine and Charity Coordination Centre unveiled
The University of Debrecen has established a new organisational unit for the management of disaster medicine and the operation of mobile medical teams in disaster and war zones, as well as for the management of domestic charitable and support programmes. University leaders informed journalists about the planned tasks and objectives of the centre on Friday.
